Freedom Seekers Book Club

Teens will embark on a courageous journey with the captivating novel Freewater by Amina Luqman-Dawson. Follow the adventures of a brave 12-year-old boy and his sister as they escape their oppressive plantation and discover a hidden community deep in the woods called “Freewater”, where formerly enslaved people have created a sanctuary of freedom and resilience.

We will begin exploring themes of courage, resilience, and the power of community in this unforgettable tale.

Please note that each session is intended for an hour of reading 50 pages, followed by an hour and a half of group discussions and creative projects/reflective work. It will take 8 sessions to complete the book and a 9th session for presentations and a party.
